365 days of don’t tell mum. time flies when you’re having fuuun
don’t tell mum started with a few late-night brainstorms, paired with some damn good fruit. thinking back, it was probably inevitable. we have always had a strong connection to wine. growing up, we spent a lot of times around vineyards, learning the ropes of winemaking, but the one thing we always knew to be true, was that wine didn’t need to be fancy or overly serious.
that’s why we started don’t tell mum – to make wine that’s easy, fun, and approachable. no rules, just good juice.
over the last year we’ve had 3 main things we wanted to do:
to keep wine fun:
no stiff tastings or fancy serves, just good juice.
to do good:
10% of our profits are donated directly back to revegetation projects here in mclaren vale, south australia.
to ditch the rulebook:
two wines, endless ways to knock them back. we’re not here to tell you how you should serve it, however you like our wines is how you should drink them.
it’d be hard to break down every little thing that went right or wrong in our first year, but here are some major highlights that stand out to us the most:
- making and releasing our first two wines
- our first 2 wines being so well received that now we’re making whites!! (watch this space, they’re coming soon!)
- being awarded 95 points from the mclaren vale wine show for our 2024 red
- exporting and getting to share our wines with people all around the world (especially in the united states & canada).
- seeing our mate chug a DTM sparkling shoey (ifykyk)
- working with some great people, shout out to the weekly fifty ~ the best addition to friday knockoffs…tell us we’re wrong
- doing our first dtm planting day here in mclaren vale + everyone that’s gotten around it and come out to help us put trees in the ground (and pull the weeds out!)
and that’s just a snapshot of the last year – behind the scenes there’s so much that goes into this every day, but we need to wrap this up.
so, to celebrate the year that has been, we’re throwing ourselves a 1st birthday party. and you’re all invited!!
we couldn’t have achieved anything without everyone who has cracked a bottle, poured a glass, or made a cocktail.
when: saturday may 30
time: shenanigans from 2pm
where: nearly bar… the good part of hindley street
the vibe: free entry, glass of fizz on arrival, snacks + drinks + vinyl dj + good fun
